The group trip packing checklist

Most packing lists are made for solo travelers. Group trips have different rules — a lot of stuff only needs one of, not seven of. Split this into personal, shared, and the always-forgotten list.

Personal essentials (everyone brings)

  • Passport / ID (photo backup on your phone)
  • Bank card + one backup card in a different bag
  • Phone charger + a shared long cable
  • Universal power adapter
  • Two changes of layers (the weather app is lying)
  • Any prescription meds + a small first-aid kit
  • Sunscreen (yes, even in cities)
  • Reusable water bottle

Shared crew gear (bring one for the group)

  • One power strip (turns one hotel outlet into six)
  • Board game or cards — day 3 always needs one
  • Bluetooth speaker
  • A shared drybag or tote for beach/hike days
  • Common medicines: paracetamol, ibuprofen, antihistamines, electrolytes
  • Sunscreen + aftersun, buy once for the group
  • Duct tape or gaffer tape (fixes everything)

The always-forgotten list

  • Copies of the accommodation address for taxi drivers offline
  • Cash in local currency for the first 24 hours
  • A hoodie for flights (planes are freezing)
  • Slip-on shoes for airport security
  • Motion sickness tablets if there's any boat / winding road
  • Earplugs — someone in every group snores

Assign the shared items in the group chat

Before the trip, drop the shared list in the group and let people claim items. This avoids the classic three-power-strips-no-speaker situation. A shared checklist beats a group chat scroll every time.
